Academy Awards Day

Well, I think it's time that I start my blog. I am doing this for a Communication class, and have never started a blog before, nor have I commented on anyone else's blog. I rarely read blogs, and can see the potential for the endless wasting of time if I do start to read them. Not that blogs are bad, just that I would get interested enough, and then completely lose track of time.

Anyway, today (February 24, 2008) is the day of the Academy Awards. I'm pretty sure it's the 80th Annual Academy Awards show. I am a faithful watcher of the Academy Awards program as well as the Golden Globe awards show. I have actually attended the Golden Globes, but that is for another post. I love pop culture and movies are a big part of pop culture. I love hearing about who wrote the screen plays, who directed the movie, which actors were great, etc. I like to watch the awards ceremony to see who attended, but I think the best part is actually hearing what the winners have to say. I'm always looking for that actor who is eloquent in their acceptance speech and makes me want to see them in more movies or just know more about them. I must admit, I do enjoy seeing who the actors bring to the Oscars, and sometimes what they're wearing. What can I say, clothes say a lot about a person.

So today on this blog, I am going to make my predictions for tonight's Oscars, but only in five categories (so as not to completely bore everyone). I only saw two of the five movies up for best picture (Juno and Atonement - both great), but I take what I have seen and what I have read, and make my predictions. I will also attend an annual Oscar party tonight and will make my predictions in all categories. Here goes:

Best Director: Ethan and Joel Coen, No Country for Old Men
Best Actress: Ellen Page, Juno
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis
Best Original Screenplay: Diablo Cody, Juno (yeah! Minnesota)
Best Picture: No Country for Old Men

Okay, let's see how I do.
